"Sparrow, my lady's pet..." - Catullus

Or, for those who like a bit of Latin on a Sunday morning, the first line of the Roman poet Catullus' poem on the relationship between his lover and her pet sparrow reads, "Passer, deliciae meae puellae..."

None of which has any relation to Erica Weiner's bird call necklace...except to show that the humble little sparrow has held a special place in people's affections for quite a while now...and is currently flapping his way into mine. Yes, I've found yet one more piece of jewelry whose description could feature the words "dull gold" and "all creatures great and small"...does anyone else see a theme here?
